Proud to be associated with the Timaru Penguins.
After a couple of years of work behind the scenes, a meeting was coordinated of persons and groups presently involved with the Penguins welfare.
The Timaru Penguin Group was officially founded by a meeting on the 15th April 2014.
Representation from Department of Conservation, NZ Forest & Bird (S.C. Branch), Primeport Timaru, Timaru District Council, Ecanz, Caroline Bay Association, Timaru Yacht & Power Boat Club.
All with an interest in supporting the Little Penguins around the Timaru Harbour area.
Over the past years individual efforts by people and groups contributed to where we are today.
Names such as Stuart Croft and his efforts with the Bluestone School in annually constructing “nesting” houses, thanks to the donation of materials from Mitre 10 Mega.
And Paul Hutchieson who has been part of the assistance and watch team with George Isles from the Department of Conservation.
Presently, a group of over 20 persons is actively meeting bi-monthly to discuss and create the best ideas for the future welfare of the penguins. Anyone is welcome to join the group.
